By Aaron Cromie
The zeitgeist of 18th Century Italy is torn asunder by the feud between two playwrights with opposite philosophies. Carlo Goldoni, who worked vigorously for theatre to reflect the experiences of the common man, and Carlo Gozzi, who began writing strictly to prove that Goldoni’s work was a farce that he could effortlessly eclipse. Gozzi became an immediate success, creating a new genre while spurning every technique and belief that Goldoni had ever developed. This delicious contrast of reality and fantasy, dedication and mockery, comes to life in Philadelphia-based actor Aaron Cromie's first full-length work.
